Humanity’s thirst for adventure and exploration has been pulling us towards Mars for centuries. Now, we are finally on the brink of possessing the technology necessary to make that dream into reality. Only one problem remains. How will future inhabitants produce food? The MARS (Martian Agricultural Research Site) was created to see how plants behave in the harsh environments Mars has to offer. Here, plants can be genetically modified to accompany such extreme temperature fluctuations and a near vacuum atmosphere. On top of plant modification, special gel formulas are required to provide the plants with the right nutrition without freezing or boiling off. The MARS is one of the final small steps towards this next giant leap for Humanity.
